EXECUTIVE OFFICE CHAIRS

Executive office furnishings make a strong statement to personnel, customers and prospective employees. Whether used for top or middle management these furnishings are considered as status symbols, visual evidence of the various executives’ positions in an organization. Office desks and executive office chairs are key components of these furnishings.

Executive chairs, much more than desks, help occupants to express themselves, says Bruce Mallett, vice president of EQA Office Furnishings. Because they swivel, they permit the occupant to fully address an individual or members of a group one by one. A reclining position indicates thought or agreement while fully forward they help the occupant emphasize a point.

Executive chairs are also found behind office reception desks and, in companies with open office floor plans, behind office desks in the larger cubicles occupied by middle and top management.

As a class of office furniture, executive chairs generally have several features in common including a high back, 5-star chromium or black metal bases equipped with casters, arm rests, and the capability of being adjusted to the comfort of the occupant. Typical adjustable features, although not available on all models, include a ratchet back rest, height adjustable arm rests, seat slider, reverse and forward tilt, a tension adjuster, a height adjustment and locking mechanism.

According to EQA, a popular feature available in many designs is black leather upholstery. Some models also feature bright chrome trim elements. Another popular feature is chair backs fabricated of open mesh to improve air circulation and comfort.

The size of the executive chair in relation to the size of the office desk and the office itself should be considered when making choices. The question to ask is how this chair will look in this setting.
